Mastercard and “My Favorite Things”

“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens” except the new commercial starts with what sounds like “Angels on roses.” I PVR’d this and played it over and over, so I didn’t hear it just once.

I don’t usually listen to TV commercials, but I got stuck on a station, too busy working, updating links. WTF?

Am I crazy or how does “raindrops” sound like “angels?” Anyone else hear the Mastercard commercial with a woman riding a horse, driving a fast car, skin diving, etc? Angels on roses? Maybe next she’ll “kiss the sky.”

UPDATE: Ok, so I heard it again while watching “Two and A Half Men,” (what can I say, I love that show. The cast is brilliantly funny). I appreciate and agree with all the commentors. I love being able to hear words to great classic show tunes. Although the ad agency was delighted, the singer butchered that song. Either punk it up loud and fast or be a bit more faithful or do something delightful. Maybe I just don’t like that whole Mastercard campaign. It leaves me cold. Now that’s priceless!

My wife heard “Angels” the first time also, but it’s always been “raindrops” for me.

I’d like to know why she suddenly develops a Southern accent as she is about to scuba “these are a few of my favorite things”. Also, doesn’t sound like she totally loses pitch for the final “so bad…”?

Well that was strange. Got to these postings by trying to look up the commercial to identify the singer (yeah, I’ll feel like a moron if it’s somebody I should recognize, but glad I found the site regarldess) but also heard “Angels” the first time and did the whole DVR thing but got nothing but raindrops each time. Crap, maybe all that stuff about subliminal mind controlling corporate evil is true. Either that or just really stylized editing, haven’t decided which yet, which is where I think the accent as well as tone, attitude, etc. come in - the sound changes dramtically with the different lines/scenes, but there’s definitely something attention getting about the whole thing. So what I’m saying is, who the hell is she?

She absolutely sings “Raindrops on roses…” Sounds a little like angels because it is clipped off a little at the head of the commercial. The actress in the spot is Penelope Fortier. It is probably her voice too and they’re (Mastercard/Ad agency/Director) are happy with it sounding natural/real over slick and professional. IMHO - Pablo

This story sounds convincingly! I agree with you in this case.
